Average Joe Wine Tasting

Going to a wine tasting can be a very fun and enjoyable experience.  However, many people do not attend for fear of not knowing exactly how to act or what to do. There no great mystery to wine tastings, just a few things you should remember.

As far as etiquette, usually the ladies are served before the gentlemen.  Some wine tastings offer you bottled water.  Use this to rinse out your mouth between tastings so your palate is clean for the next wine.  There is often unsalted and unflavored crackers and bread to help palate cleansing as well.  You should always handle the wine glass by the stem.  This helps avoid heating the wine with the warmth of your hands, thus altering the taste.  Avoid wearing strong perfumes and colognes to a wine tasting.  That may take away from not only your smell, but also that of the other guests.  Also, avoid smoking, gum, and mints before and during a wine tasting to be able to enjoy the full flavor of the wine.

You can tell a lot about a wine just by looking at its color.  When you attend a wine tasting, the glasses should always be clear so you can get a good look at the wine.  The tables may also be covered with white tablecloths to help you see the wine’s color clearly.  Do not let the wine name full you.  For example, white wines are not white in color.  They may range from yellow to green to brown.  Red wines range in color from pale red to a deep brownish red and often become lighter with age.  Sometimes the color of a wine may indicate age or flavor.  You may be able to tell the age of a red wine by doing a rim test.  Tilt the glass slightly towards the rim of the wine glass and look at the wine.  If the color of the red wine is more of a purple, it is usually a younger wine.  If the color of the red wine is brown, it is an older wine.

Another thing you may have seen people do before they taste wine is swirl it slightly in the glass.  This is to help open up the wine’s flavor.  Remember that the wine may have been in a bottle anywhere from six months to many, many years.  When someone swirls a wine, it helps release the flavors.  Just like when you’re cooking at home and stir the food to help blend the flavors.

The color of the wine is just one aspect you will want to look at when you attend a wine tasting.  You will also want to smell the wine.  After swirling, this is the next step in the tasting process.  You have probably seen people smell wine before and wondered why they did it.  Smell plays a very important part in what we taste.  Researchers have determined that perhaps as much as 75% of what we taste is actually based on what we smell first.  You can smell your wine one of two ways:  taking a small whiff to get an idea of how the wine smells, then a deeper whiff or take one deep whiff.  After smelling the wine, take a minute to think about the smell.   You do not want to immediately taste it after smelling but give yourself time to explore exactly what you smelled.

Finally, you will need to know is how to taste the wine properly.  Your tongue has taste buds in both the front and back.  These taste buds can detect bitter, salty, sweet, and sour flavors, but some are more sensitive than others are.  There are three steps in tasting a wine:  the first impression, the taste, and the aftertaste.  The first impression happens when you take your first drink and the wine actually hits your taste buds.  It should awaken your sense to the wine.  After taking the first drink, you should swish the wine around your mouth for a few seconds to let all your taste buds discover the full flavor of the wine.  Think about what the wine tastes like.  Is it light or heavy?  Is the smooth or harsh?  The aftertaste is the sensation that remains in your mouth after swallowing the wine.  How long did it last and was it pleasant?

Before attending a wine tasting, it may help you feel more confident to read about the different types of wines.  This will give you a better idea of what to look for as far as flavor and taste.  Next time you are invited to a wine tasting; do not be afraid to go.   You may be missing a great experience!

These wine racks hold the bottles in contact with the cork, thereby preventing any loss of taste or smell of delicate liquids.

Wine racks can be made up of wood, metal, wrought iron, etc. It is said that wrought iron racks are best, as they can not only be made into different artistic designs, but they are also sturdy, thus providing good support for your wine bottles. For a classic Victorian look, go for a wooden wine storage rack. This is also safe to use as it can go with any kind of furniture you have at home. Things to remember:

For those who have a large collection of wine, you can also go for a refrigerator wine storage rack, as the refrigerator will keep the temperature under control. There are a few things that you should remember while buying a wine storage rack:

• Decide on the place where you want to keep the rack, be it your kitchen or your dining area. Depending on that, you can decide on what type of rack you want.

• If you have a big space, you can have choices as to what type of racks you want, but incase you are short of space, you can go for a hanging one or a wall rack.

• Check out the size, shape, and the number of bottles you want, and then you can decide whether you will need a big rack or if a small one will do.

• Find out the different price ranges and compare prices from all different dealers. Buy the one that suits your budget.

A wine rack cannot be complete without wine accessories. The most common ones include wine glasses, corkscrews, wine totes, coolers, wine stoppers, wine bottle holders, corkboards etc. A wine corkscrew is an important tool. There are many types of corkscrews available, though all serve the same purpose. One end has to be screwed directly into the cork’s center, and then the handle is used to lift the cork out of the bottle. Now you can also find decanters for enhancing the look of your display. They are glass bottles with designs on them, and they are also great for maintaining the flavors of wine rather than to keep in open bottles in your rack.

These wine accessories also make a perfect gift for someone who has a taste for fine things in life.

All ABout Wine Racks

If you want your wine to mature in the correct way, you should have the right humidity, temperature, light condition, and movement. When you are storing wine for any amount of time, you’ll need to ensure that the wine is in a secure place. Even if you have a few ways to choose to store wine, not any are safer or smarter than using a wine rack.

That’s why evaluating pieces of writing is definitely an excellent way of growing ones comprehension of a theme but for that you would have to rummage around through a lot of waste. Perhaps some of your needs must have been contented through reading this article about

Why Use A Wine Rack.

As soon as you make a decision towards the sort of wine rack that goes well with your needs, you should at all times consider selecting one that will store up your wine perfectly. On the market you’ll find more than a few kinds to choose from, including the ones that stack, wall mounts, and side mounts. You should also focus on to dimension as well, as the sizes sort from piling a few bottles to storing hundreds. You’ll also have an abundance of types and designs to choose from, depending on your wants and your space.

Along with the best types of wine racks are the horizontal racks. Contrary to what many might imagine, vertical racks aren’t an outstanding option for collecting your wine. Wine that is stockpiled on vertical racks are stored vertically, which means that the cork will dry out and ultimately start to shrink, conveying air into the wine and ruining it. On the other hand, vertical racks could be practical when storing wine for a short period of time, or wine that is best consumed at an early stage.

Tilted racks are another type of rack you should avoid using, as they can dry out the corks or deposit the sediments too close to the cork. As for your wine storing requirements, you should always choose a horizontal rack. Horizontal racks will keep the cork moist, and keep out the surplus air from making contact with the wine. The sediment will drop towards the side of the bottle, preventing spillage when you pop the cork.

Horizontal racks are as well very well within your reach and you can always add more racks to the design without any problem.

The material used for wine racks are normally wood or metal. You can mount them on the wall, suspend them from ceilings, or just place them on the floor. Metal racks are the strongest, even though wood is more flexible. Wooden racks offer a bit more storage, for the simple fact that you can constantly add to them. Wood racks are also visually appealing, durable, and supply plenty of strength.

We can say for sure that a wine rack is a good investment for everyone who likes wine. There are different sizes to choose from, all of which are very reasonably priced. The small to medium sizes work best for homes, while the large styles are best for commercial settings. Regardless of where you keep your wine – you can count on a wine rack to keep your wine stored for years to come. That is all we had to talk about why to use a wine rack and if you are satisfied with what you have learnt here, our task has been satisfied.

Wine Storage Tips

Some people simply enjoy drinking an occasional glass of wine with a nice dinner, but to others wine collecting is a serious hobby. Actually, wine collecting is a lucrative hobby for some – did you know fine bottles can fetch over $1000? Of course, other collectors are simply passionate about wine and love having a collection to choose from when they are in the mood for glass.

If you are interested in starting a wine collection, there is a lot to learn. First, one of the most common misconceptions is that all wines taste better with aging. In fact, cheaper wines are meant to be consumed within six month to one year. The more expensive wines are designed to mature over time and are best when aged. It can be very frustrating to the amateur trying to start on a budget. There is considerable expense involved, not just in the bottles of the wine, but proper storage as well.

For wines that will be consumed within a year or so, you don’t really need to worry so much, but if you intend to collect bottles to age, it’s best to consider a special storage space. Sizes can vary from a small wine cabinet all the way to a full wine cellar. There are commercial refrigerators available specially designed for wine storage. Large units have two temperature chambers so that some remain at room temperature and others are chilled. The other variables, which are discussed below, may also be controlled by commercial refrigerators.

Wines continue to change over time. It’s important to ensure your wine changes for the better and avoid conditions that can lead to undesirable changes. There are four main conditions that need to be controlled for proper wine storage: air, temperature, light, and humidity. It’s best to have consistent conditions, although keeping those surroundings at desired levels is best to ensure wine matures properly.

1. Temperature. Temperature is perhaps the most critical factor in proper storage. Ideal temperatures are between 45-55 F, but can range from just above freezing to almost seventy degrees Fahrenheit. Going to the extremes can cause problems. If stored too cold, the cork may shrink, letting in air, but if the temperature is too warm the wine may age faster than it should. What ever temperature you choose – keep it consistent. Recurring temperature changes can be detrimental. Fluctuations over a season of 5-10 degrees are acceptable, but avoid frequent and rapid changes.

2. Humidity. Another factor that can impact the cork is humidity. If humidity is too low the cork can dry out, while high levels of humidity encourages growth of micro-organisms. Strive for 70% humidity to keep the cork properly moistened. However, make sure to keep air circulating to discourage mold.

3. Air. With all bottles of wine, there is a portion of the bottle that is void of wine and is filled with air. This air space, known as ullage, is required to ensure proper aging. The key is making sure no additional air enters the bottle. Since glass is impermeable to air, it all comes down to the cork. For this reason it’s best to store bottles horizontally to keep air exchange to a minimum. By storing the bottle horizontally, the cork remains moist thereby preventing cracking or shrinking that may admit additional air.

4. Light. While colored bottles do a good job shielding wine from light sources, its best to store your wine in dark conditions. Failure to do so may result in a condition known as light struck which results in an unpleasant aroma.

Get the Fresh and Fine Taste of Brunello di Montalcino Wine

Brunello di Montalcino Wine

Interpreting the fact that wines have been raised for over 3,500 years in Italy, Brunello di Montalcin Wine is reckoned as a more stylish conception, so to mouth. The wine fallen into existence as a outcome of the analyses of Ferruccio Biondi-Santi, a winemaker of the late 1800s, are not reckoned as a wine that paid homage to localised traditions. Biondi-Santi begun planting clones of the Sangiovese grape variety called Brunello and was finally competent to make a entirely smashing wine that was established from a only diversity of grape.

Biondi-Santi was an groundbreaking winemaker to tell the least and gone forward to break with wine-making road maps and custom throughout his life. He would predisposed his wines to a operation regarding a four year period of ripening in oak casks. After the aging was consummated, Biondi-Santi would then leave the bottled wines to age some more which resulted in the development of some essential features and qualities.

Somewhere around 1880, Biondi-Santi turned the talk of the wine industry in Italy and the first established vintage to strike the shelves was the 1888 Brunello. Despite how long ago this first vintage amounted into being, purportedly there are 5 bottles of the prime 1888 Brunello still in being now. As the Brunello maturates, it evolves a bigger scent and a more smooth smack. This serves to increment the smell and the concordance that has been finely stable yet at the same time, it is quite extreme.

The Grape and the Wine

Suffice it to enunciate, the Sangiovese grape is the most wide planted grape now in the whole Montalcino. To Boot, it is the lone grape reserved to be applied in Brunello di Montalcino Wine. The other clones of the Sangiovese grape are endemic to the Montalcino area and have strongest accommodated to the climate and terrain likened to other forms of grapes. This climate and terrain are as well the big cause why the Sangiovese grape matures systematically and more to the full than in any other area of the Tuscany neighborhood.

Once the wine has went through the maceration period and the fermenting phase, it is then matured for a period of 3 years in oak casks. These casks convey very small oak smell to the wine and grow one that is considerably more austere than those matured in other casks. Production of this wine is typically separated into a normale and riserva bottling, or normal and reserve. The normale are typically released 50 months after harvesting while the riserva is issued 12 months after that.

Todays ongoing maturing necessities for Brunello di Montalcino Wine were prescribed over ten years ago in 1998. These requisites mandate that the wine maturates in casks for a period of not less than 2 years, then it is bottled and matures another 4 months before being discharged onto the market. These road maps are hence strict that commercial imposter sentences will consequence if they are not stringently observed and the offender could receive a prison sentence of up to 6 years.

Wine Online Goes Upmarket

The profile of wine online sales has changed dramatically across the last six weeks as consumers ready themselves for Christmas. Wine online is changing from being very price driven and mass market, to more discerning and quality led.

Fine red wine online growth is slightly ahead of white wine online growth, but with a 9% shift from standard to fine wine, this is a noticeable trend. This trend has bemused some online wine merchants, but people do funny things in a recession. So what is going on in the online space you may ask ?

Online wine sales have been growing steadily for the last five years as the bricks and mortar retailers have been reducing the number of lines they stock. Also as online retail has grown and consumers trust the online space to a greater extent, purchasing from online wine merchants has become more convenient. After all you don’t have to carry the bottles home.

The second trend that is happening is the trend of having less treats during a recession but spending more on them when you do. As a result consumers are trading up to better quality wines online. At the same time online wine merchants are offering 6 bottle cases rather than 12 bottle cases because consumers are consuming less, but want a more premium wine online.

This trend is also having a positive knock on effect for old world wines, as it seems consumers chasing the finer wine choice are buying French, Spanish and Italian wines ahead of Australian and New Zealand wines.

Online wine merchants like their bricks and mortar piers are also promoting the concept of quality over quantity to ensure responsible drinking trends are being adopted. There are several key wine online merchants running socially responsible campaigns to accelerate this trend.

The trend of fine wines online is predicted to accelerate as we move into the Christmas holidays, which can only be good for wine producers as well as consumers. There is a new generation of online wine merchants who are trying to demystify wine online, and provide choice, as well as create a shop window for small family vineyards. These merchants are also using the concept of food and wine matching to drive trial of new varietals and wines from different places such as Lebanon.

Of course the market will not change from standard to fine wines but choice will continue to drive wine online, and the real benefit of wine online, is to discover products that you have never seen in the real world.

As we move out of Christmas into the New Year certain consumers may change their buying habits from buying champagne online to other fizz brands. We strongly believe Prosecco online will start to nibble away at Champagne sales as people move away from the bling to taste.
