Just barely recovering from the stock market fiasco, investors are beginning to rethink the logic of diversification of their portfolio. Many investment advisors are turning to Indian art as an emerging alternative investment option.

Although the concept of investing in art is relatively new in India, art has always been a viable investment option in the west. Art investment in India is gaining momentum with the works of M.F Husain, Tyeb Mehta and F.N Souza being lapped up by international collectors. The prices of works of several famous artists like CF John, TM Azis, Yusuf Arakkal, Atul Dodiya have increased considerably since Indian art reached the international stage.

The potential for further rapid growth of the Indian art market makes it a viable investment alternative. For example, the ET art index (Art index by the Economic times) has grown phenomenally from just 116.53 points in 2000 to 3106.47 in September 2008. According to Arttatic, an independent research firm, the Indian art market in 2008 was valued at approximately $70 million from the $40 -$50 million level in 2007.

The increase in demand for Asian (Indian) art by international collectors

Indian cuisine is one of the most popular types of food in the UK. We love Indian food so much so that we even have a National Curry Week, which usually runs at the end of November. India is an extremely large country and much of its culinary history has been influenced by other countries and cultures. The Persians introduced a variety of rich ingredients and nuts as did the Chinese. You will also find that Thai and Malaysian food is heavily influenced by Indian cuisine, which has led them to creating their own delicious curries.

Whatever it is our affection for Indian food goes back further than you would think. In fact you can follow it back some 400 years, when the East India Company allegedly brought various ingredients and dishes to our shores in the 1600s. Most of these adventurous seamen were from Bengal, which is a region in the East of India.

You will find that Indian cuisine differs from region to region with the north being famous for bread dishes such as Roti and Paratha. Have you ever been to an American Indian restaurant? Even though I do not know the exact number, they do exist. Some people assume the cuisine from the indigenous community has been lost. That is so far from the truth. They actually number more than most people think. Let me try to explain…

Some of the most succulent foods I have ever eaten is American Indian. So many different flavors to tantalize the palate can be found in these fanciful little places. The herbs (sage, cayenne, mesquite) mingle to cause an infusion of bursting distinctions for your mouth! How can anyone avoid trying the masterpieces created in these talented cafeterias?

Roast Beef tenderloin with Butternut squash, is so very delicious! I can almost taste the smoothness of this dish as I reminisce. This is a standard favorite of mine! I believe you would love a stew made with zucchini, summer squash, corn and beans. It melts in your mouth. Let me throw in, that a single course I truly like are tortillas!

Another admired dish is fry bread. In some regions it is called “squaw” bread. In some places honey is poured over the finished course. Other ways to enjoy fry bread are with powered sugar, cream, or even with simmered stew. However one likes it, eating this mouth watering fare will make your tongue crave more!

One other tasty meal is called “Chicken Nachos.” Made with corn tortillas, a list of fantastic nourishment is stacked on top. The ingredients can be: tomatoes, onions, garlic, peppers, chicken, rice, the list goes on and on. Finally, a hot, gooey river of cheese is poured on top. This is so very yummy!

Some do not know that tomatoes, potatoes, turkey, and squash were staples readily found in America (when Europeans entered). Buffalo, persimmons, corn, even cocoa were part of the First Peoples way of life. They were very intelligent in knowing what was good to eat and what was not. We should be thankful they passed their knowledge onto the rest of us.

Now, I do want to let you know, that I am not against other types of cuisine. It is simply my opinion, that American Indian food is my all time number one. I do not claim to be an expert or any type of professional. This is just from the experience of my taste buds. I have a tongue that speaks many different languages. It definitely enjoys a variety of textures and tastes! So far as I know, it has never lied to me!

I have traveled extensively across the American nation. I will not point out one American Indian restaurant over another. I feel they each have something to contribute to the greatness of their history. I do believe it is in your best interest to taste the food of these miraculous diners. You will give your appetite a nice change. You may find that food with which you are familiar, can be delightful made a different way. Enjoy your journey!
