I absolutely love sugary foods. However, the types of sugary foods that I like are things such as fruits, yogurt, Dunkin Donuts, etc. I don’t really care for rich, sugary foods like fudge or a lot of chocolate, etc. That being said, I also try to limit my intake of sugary foods because I know that overdoing it in the sugar department wouldn’t be good for me. With the increased number of instances of people who have diabetes, high cholesterol and other weight problems, sugar-rich foods certainly do not help matters.

What most people fail to realize or simply choose to ignore about foods that contain a lot of sugar is that sugar tends to get absorbed by the body and turned right into fat. The same thing is true of carbohydrates when they are consumed in massive quantities. For instance, did you know that in just one cup of pasta, there are almost 200 calories? Think about that the next time you make yourself a big plate of pasta. This doesn’t even account for the fact that most people aren’t simply eating a plate of plain pasta. Eating Healthy – Easier Than You Think

Decades ago eating healthy was actually easier than it is today. Fast food restaurants hadn’t really become part of the American culture, and burgers and hot dogs weren’t normal lunch or dinner fare; they were pretty much limited to special occasions such as outdoor cookouts or state fairs.

The worst thing we had to deal with back then was probably having too much butter on our potatoes and vegetables at dinner, and maybe some bacon was included in our breakfast. Other than that, school cafeterias weren’t even allowed to have vending machines, they couldn’t sell soda or coffee to even high schoolers, and even though lunches may have left a bit to be desired, they didn’t include pizza or tacos.

Fast forward to the 21st century and things are so different – not only in schools but in restaurants, home life and on the road. Our lives are hectic so instead of cooking we order take out. Rather than finding time for a healthy breakfast we grab a muffin or breakfast sandwich that has enough cholesterol to cause permanent damage to our livers and gallbladders.

The trouble with all this is that these foods that cause so much damage to our bodies are just so good! It seems the better they taste the worse they are for our health. Even though we all know that fresh green vegetables are the way to go, many of us can’t gag down broccoli without a stick of butter or half pound of melted cheese on top… Killing the entire reason for eating the broccoli to begin with.
