I believe if you have own more than 6-8 stocks, you are not paying attention to your portfolio and thus wasting money. Unless you are professional, retired or between jobs, if you have more than 8 stocks, you have too many to follow up and often get confused. A portfolio of 3-5 stocks is ideal for an average investor to follow and allows maximum attention. In the investment context, too many stocks simply require too many decisions to be made thus wasting time and money.

For those who do a lot of entertaining, it’s hard to come up with new party themes. But the recent popularity of cigars offers a great creative party idea for stressed-out would-be party hosts.
Putting together a good party is hard – and gets harder as you grow older. In college, it’s easy enough to satisfy your guests with, say, a bowlful of pretzels and a keg of beer, but friends burdened with adult responsibilities – a job to get up for, a child to raise – may not want to drive out to your place just for some stale salt-heavy snacks and a can or two of average quality beer. So you’ve got to come up with fun new ideas. But this gets stressful, complex, and sometimes expensive as well. After you’ve tried out your first two or three great inspirations, you may begin to burn out on entertaining all together.
But there’s hope. Try throwing a cigar-sampler party.
Cigars aren’t just your grandfather’s chosen indulgence anymore – they’ve grown increasingly popular during the past fifteen years or so. After bottoming out during the 1980s, cigars became the break of choice for a well-educated, younger demographic, even as other forms of smoking went into decline. They’re just luxurious enough to feel like the break you deserve, but, since they’re designed to be smoked slowly, one at a time, and in moderation (unlike cigarettes), they won’t break the bank. Their infinite differences in taste offer the pleasures of connoisseurship as well: experienced smokers learn to enjoy the differences between double claro cigars (light and generally dry-tasting, with very tan outer wrappers) and maduros (dark brown in color and sweetish), between the great cigars of Nicaragua and those of the Dominican Republic or Turkey. A cigar-themed party makes sense if your friends are smokers, and it also makes sense for those who aren’t (as long as, you make sure not to invite anybody who’s passionately anti-smoking or allergic to tobacco).
Here are some tips on throwing a cigar-themed party:
1) a sampler or two of premium cigars, until you have enough to cover the number of planned guests. (Keep the guest list small – you’ll have better-quality interactions, and you’ll keep the party affordable.)
2) Cigar samplers are easy to online, but be careful. Some cigar stores “lead off” with a too-good-to-be-true deal – an inexpensive sampler labeled “premium.” Usually these cheap “premium” platters actually contain only a few top cigars, and are then rounded out with cigar pawns – cheaply-made knockoff cigars. Make sure that your sampler comes from a high-quality cigar shop or online store, and that you know what you’re getting.
3) Once you have your premium-cigar sampler, assign one cigar to each guest.
4) On the night of the party, serve simple snacks before you serve the cigars. (Cigars tend not to go well with ultra-creamy or rich foods.) Hard cheeses, dark chocolates, fruit, coffee, and fine red wines or beers are recommended. Remember – avoid anything too rich!
5) After folks have eaten and had a few drinks, bring out the cigars. Have everyone head outside with his or her assigned cigar and a drink; light everyone’s cigar, and tell them to smoke up. You’ll have given all your guests something new to talk about.
6) If desired, encourage your guests to bring their own cigars, which can be collected and served as part of a “second round” later. Guests could compare the tastes of their two assigned cigars. You could even encourage one of your guests to bring some non-premium cigars, even off-brand gas-station cigars, as a gaga – though only if you’re going for a second round of smoking!
Experienced cigar smokers will enjoy the chance to share their enthusiasm with others. New smokers and nonsmokers will be trying and enjoying something new.
Remember when lighting to cut the cap of the cigar, then, using a wooden match or a zippo lighter or other full flame (not a paper match), turn the end of the cigar in the flame a full 360 degrees until every part of it is lit. Remind your guests who haven’t smoked cigars before that they shouldn’t inhale – this isn’t a cigarette! Pull the smoke into your mouth and taste it thoroughly without allowing it into your lungs. Remember, it’s about the taste.

Key West Florida is full of history. I recently stayed at a quaint bed and breakfast on Eaton Street, called The Knowles House. It was a lovely time, quite the paradise. When I returned back home I did a little history research on The Knowles House Family in Key West. Here is what I found.
The branch of the Knowles family of Key West emigrated from the island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas. The Knowles family engaged in fishing and farming. The agricultural economy in the Bahamas declined in the early 10th century. Because of the decline many Bahamians looked for new opportunities in nearby places. Key West seemed like an attractive destination for many because of the islands booming maritime trade. Fishing, sponging and the growing cigar manufacturing lured many Bahamians to another part of the Caribbean, Key West Florida.
Family tradition maintains that the Knowles’ had previously lived in the American colonies in the 18th century, but remained loyal to Britain during the American Revolution and were forced to relocate to the Bahamas, where they received land grants from the British government as compensation for their loyalty to the crown, when their lands in America were confiscated.
The early Knowles’ worked in fishing, sponging and the cigar industry. By the later nineteenth century, David Knowles and his family were residing at Knowles House. David was a sponge fisherman and his house looked out across the open water that lapped up to the opposite side of Eaton Street. In the later 1880′s, the shallows across the road were filled and the present row of Victorian houses were built in the 1890s, depriving the Knowles family of its water view. David and his wife Rosa raised seven children in Knowles House. In 1909 David died leaving his widow alone to raise their younger children in the family homestead.
For many years Rosa lived in The Knowles House with her youngest child, Benjamin Rupert Knowles. Rupert was born in the house in 1896. Rupert began a wholesale business dealing in tropical fruit. In 1928 he met and married a young Swiss girl, Rosalie Weisser, known as Nancy. She was working as a nanny for a wealthy Miami family at the time they met at the Casa Marina Hotel in Key West. After their marriage, they continued living at Knowles House. Nancy and Rupert looked after Rupert’s aging mother, until her death in 1929. Rupert and Nancy had 3 children, Gene, Elizabeth Rose and Joan, all of whom were born in the Knowles house.
During the Great Depression, Rupert’s tropical fruit business failed and the family experienced hard times as economic conditions in Key West worsened. Just when things couldn’t be any worse, Rupert won the equivalent of $10,000 in the Cuban National Lottery in 1935. This economic boom enabled him to start a restaurant on Caroline Street near the bustling seaport. He also used some of the money to enlarge the family homestead, which had seen little change since its construction. The result transformed Knowles House to its present appearance and provided much needed space for his children.
Although 1935 brought good fortune to Rupert’s family, it also brought calamity to the Florida Keys in the form of the disastrous Labor Day Hurricane of 1935. Thousands of people died in the middle and upper keys, but Key West was spared the worst of the storm. Key West experienced torrential rains. Unfortunately, the storm coincided with the renovation of Knowles House at a time when the roof had been torn off to add the second story. The children remember their mother Nancy sweeping the rain water out the front door as it cascaded like a water fall down the stairs. In spite of this setback, the remodeling of the house was successfully completed and the family enjoyed many happy years in the old homestead
As Rupert and Nancy’s children grew up and married, they all left Key West, settling in other parts of the country. Rupert died in 1961. Nancy Knowles lived on in the family house alone until her death in 1983. After their mother’s death, the children sold the house out of the family. After several intervening owners, each of whom made improvements to the property, the present owners, Les Vollmert and Paul Masse bought it in December of 1996. After further improvements and enlargements, they have continued to operate it as the Knowles House Bed and Breakfast Inn located in Key West Florida.
